We successfully follow Stan’s directions to the site where the
Benewah Trestle “comes ashore” and enters the Benewah Tunnel,
#40: |
| |
We walked through the tunnel keeping our ears open for the
sounds of any approaching St. Maries RR trains... |
| |
... and found the old spur leading down to the old log dump. |
| |
We wondered if these old pilings might have been associated with
that old log dump. |
Leaving the east end of the Benewah Trestle we came upon this
pleasant vista of that bridge from the south edge of the lake |
Again, following Stan’s instructions we stopped at the overlook
he describes just in time to catch this St. Maries RR train
returning from Plummer with a train of empties |
| |
We even managed to find a pull-out so I could take a photo of
Highway Underpass EE46.5! Because of my old and slow digital
camera I just missed catching a large fully loaded log truck
pass under this and had to settle for this SUV (Ford
Expedition?): |
