Lonnie King's Trip Reports

June 2007

July 2007 -- Part One

July 2007 -- Part Two

La Motte, Iowa

Depot
Owner: Rick Clasen
Rick Clasen of La Motte is now the owner of the old Depot building and was the lead man in the earlier restoration of the building. He has been approached numerous times by people wanting to buy the building to move it to their personal narrow gauge railroads but has resisted.
This photo is of the depot behind a recent acquisition - a narrow gauge boxcar that originally ran on the line but served as a chicken coup in its later years. According to Rick, at the end of its chicken coup career a grand total of four hens lived in it.
Here is a shot looking across the front of the old depot to the north.
The building is in its original location and according to Rick he had to do some excavating to find all of the brick seen for the "platform" and that all of that brick is original. The "curbing" you can see along what would have been the track side is also original.
