"Growing up in the Midland area outside of Tacoma WA, near The Milwaukee Road's branch that served southwestern Washington (the 'Tacoma Eastern Line'), I developed a keen interest in that railroad’s history and operations. My memories of the Tacoma Tideflats' facilities and the electrified Coast Division over the Cascades only fueled my desire to cover a particular scenic section of what is now a well-preserved right of way for all to enjoy, The John Wayne Pioneer Trail. Being both an amateur photographer and avid cyclist gave me the means to cover this portion of the former Milwaukee Road from Cedar Falls to the Columbia River. I captured digital images of the old rail line’s remaining structures and facilities, both those still standing and places where they once were. I do not limit my photo documenting to history. I cover current events, both as a spectator and as participant. I share my photos with others, and they are featured in various websites. My goal is to use my skills and eventually make photography a career." ~ Hugh Hillesland
